Safety

Safety is our number one priority

CSTO (Certified Student Travel Organisation)

Student Horizons is a Certified Student Travel Organization (CSTO) from the Center for Student Travel Safety, an affiliate of the Student and Youth Travel Association (SYTA), a Voice of Student Travel.

The CSTO certification is awarded to companies who have met or exceeded the minimum of 25 safety standards established by the Center and SYTA. SYTA is a global educational travel association equipped to educate student travel providers about all aspects of student travel, with an emphasis on student travel safety and personal and educational enrichment. The standards are derived from the most effective practices in the industry and are based upon SYTA’s Code of Ethics and reviewed by an objective commission of industry experts.

Cornerstone Travel Group

Student Horizons is proud to be partnered with the Cornerstone Safety Group. Cornerstone provides advice, guidance and support to the leadership and operations team at Student Horizons, across essential health, safety and risk management areas.

With expertise in all three fields, the Student Horizons team benefits from resources, mentorship and training.

Tour Safety

Combine international travel with the desire to satisfy students’ adventurous spirit and there will always be an element of risk. With this in mind we cannot guarantee that incidents will not occur. However, we can promise to do everything possible to control risk and, in the event of an incident, manage things effectively.

We engage the use of the government travel website, Safe Travel, and make certain that all potential risks are outlined and travellers give informed consent to be exposed to any such risks. We also outline our expectation that travellers maintain their own safety by taking sensible precautions themselves and always acting in a responsible manner.

Student Horizons has risk assessment procedures in place with all suppliers we work with. All of the services provided by our international ground handlers have undergone extensive risk assessment evaluations and these services are consistently monitored.

For every trip Student Horizons ensures:

  • All travel related risks are adequately assessed
  • All involved parties are informed of the risks and associated preventative measures in place
  • There are competent individuals carrying out the planning, organising, controlling, monitoring and reviewing of preventative and protective measures
  • All legal and health and safety obligations are met
  • Our comprehensive safety management system coupled with our incident management plan ensure we are in the best position to mitigate risk and react to incidents when they occur.

24 Hours Assistance

When you are overseas on your sports, educational or music tour, you will have the reassurance that our team in Australia and New Zealand can be contacted 24 hours a day to assist you if required.

Insurance

Although our groups are not obliged to go with the policy we present, adequate and valid travel insurance is compulsory for all group bookings with Student Horizons and it is a condition of us accepting a booking that the group has obtained adequate and valid travel insurance for their tour.

Student Horizons Insurance partners with Lockton, GO Insurance and Southern Cross Travel Insurance. All our groups are offered a comprehensive insurance policy for their overseas experience.

Government Travel Advice – Safe Travel

Student Horizons pays particular attention to the Australian and New Zealand Government travel advice. We continually monitor changes in their advice for travel to destinations that we organise student travel to.

We do this through their travel advice websites. We also monitor a number of other country advice websites including the UK’s foreign travel website.

Monitoring this advice is part of our Safety Management System.

Before you travel we also advise that you do your own research and keep a track on government advice on the country you are traveling to:

  • Australian Government Safe Travel Advice
  • New Zealand Government Safe Travel Advice
  • UK Government Safe Travel Advice

Inspection Trips

Student Horizons offers teachers to risk assess a destination first hand, this is an investment on both our part and our ground handlers part. We understand that for some destinations and in particular those that are more far flung it is the ideal way to gain first hand knowledge of what a destination can offer your students.

Covid Safe Travel

At Student Horizons, the safety of the students, teachers and staff remains at the core of everything we do. Safety is always number one.

Student Horizons implemented global best practice around covid safe protocols in line with the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). Student Horizons is accredited with the –’Safe Travels Stamp’ by the WTTC.

Our approach to adhering to the Global Protocols is focused across 3 key areas:

  • Our People – we ensure our team are trained to the highest safety standards and are experts in Covid Safe travel.
  • Our Partners – we ensure that every Student Horizons partner (airline, hotel, transport provider) shares our commitment to Covid Safe travel and aligns with the WTTC Global Safety Protocols.
  • Our Policies and Procedures – we have adapted our Safety Management, Risk Mitigation and Incident Management frameworks to make them relevant in a Covid world. We have developed a series of contingency plans for covid related situations and scenarios such as quarantine and managed isolation.

We envision a future of student travel which is safe, secure, seamless and provides an authentic and meaningful experience to the students across the journey.
